Patio & Courtyard Garden Designs

We often find that the most stunning transformations of space are made when we are creating small courtyard and patio garden designs.

Our expertise using traditional and modern materials and careful planting schemes means we can work effectively with you to ensure that the final result is something that makes the very best use of the light, space and features of your garden.

It's always good to be inspired so for some great ideas, have at look at our Patio & Courtyard portfolio

Making a Grand Entrance

This is the front garden to a large detached house in Hampstead with an 'L' shaped garden that wraps around the house.

Hot Tub Heaven

This is the sloping garden to a new build property in a quiet, gated estate in Frimley, Surrey.

Small garden with raised lawn

American Dream

This is the rectangular rear garden to an end of terrace, corner property in Camden.

Contemporary patio with glass balustrades

Contemporary & Beyond

Our clients knew that their garden was an extremely valuable asset, but the way that it was arranged did not realise its full potential.

Rear patio garden with raised planting beds

Plantswoman's Patio

These are the front & rear gardens to an end of terrace, Victorian property in a quiet residential road in Battersea.

Small garden with trompe l'oeil gate at the end

Secret at the End of the Garden

These are the front & rear gardens to a modern terraced house in a quiet cul-de-sac in Carshalton, Surrey.

Small urban garden with mirror water feature

Urban Oasis

These are the front and rear gardens to a double-fronted, period property in Sydenham. Its owners had spent a lot of time renovating the property and wanted to bring the gardens up to the same standard.

Large garden with modern patio and large sandstone water feature

A Garden for All Senses

This is the enclosed garden space to a residential care home in Snodland, between Rochester and Maidstone, in Kent.

small enclosed courtyard in knightsbridge

Knightsbridge Nook

This garden is in fact a tiny enclosed courtyard, surrounded by tall buildings, in central London.

Small mediterranean courtyard

Mediterranean Courtyard

Our clients had fond memories of holidays in the Mediterranean and wanted to recreate that warm feeling in their own garden.

courtyard with raised planting and water feature

Small Courtyard for a Lady of Leisure

Our client wanted an interesting, easy to look after patio garden with a traditional feel, but did not want a symmetrical design typical of many such schemes. She wanted something a bit ‘different’.

small georgian courtyard

Small Georgian Town House

Our clients wanted an elegant dining area making the best use of the space and in a style in keeping with the property and its interiors.

a tiny courtyard that makes best use of space

Tiny Courtyard

Our brief was for a practical space our clients could use to relax and entertain in, but the plot was divided awkwardly by a step making use of a table and chairs impossible.

a tiny courtyard was transformed with raised beds and secret gate

Tiny Courtyard Transformed

This was a postage-stamp back garden typical of London Victorian properties, but the tiny courtyard had been laid wholly to deck with no planting to speak of.

chelsea small garden that is child friendly

Chic with Kids

This was the invaluable outside space that came with our clients’ garden flat in a prestigious area of London but it was impractical for the young family.

Our clients requested a practical, but beautiful design with real ‘wow’ factor.

shared patio between apartments

Communal Living

Our clients have adjoining patio gardens opening out onto a communal space serving a number of apartments. Unfortunately the developers had laid only a small amount of uninteresting paving.

waterside patio with nautical star in the design

Contemporary Waterside

This was a very interesting project in that the garden was on an island in the middle of the Thames only accessible by footbridge.

enclosed courtyard for entertaining

Courtyard Transformed

The owner of this small courtyard garden is a musician who spends much of his time travelling, he therefore needed a low maintenance scheme, but with the ‘wow’ factor to welcome him home.

We needed to incorporate his bespoke smoker/barbecue and a large table with benches for his frequent entertaining.

modern paved garden with hidden storage

Forest Hill to Beverley Hills

This was a suburban garden on a steeply sloping site, rising up at the back of the house via some very steep steps, rendering much of the garden unusable.

outdoor room for entertaining

Garden Room

Our clients wanted an interesting and inviting space with a contemporary feel, to act as an extension to their dining and living areas – somewhere they could entertain and relax.

small paved courtyard

Paved Courtyard

Our first concern with this garden was to give our clients the security and privacy they needed but as this was a listed building, we had first to approach the local council for permissions.

small modern decking for entertaining

Small Modern Garden

This was a new build property and the garden was typically very small, laid to lawn with a few paving slabs outside the back door.

Decking entertainment area in an urban garden

Urban Space for Entertaining

Our clients wanted to transform this urban wasteland into a low maintenance outside space where they could entertain, party and relax. They wanted some greenery, including a small lawn and plenty of colour.

small garden with big ideas

The Tardis

Our clients had fond memories of holidays in the south of France and wanted to re-create something of a rustic French feel in their tiny London garden, using materials to suit the age of their property.

Small garden with new gym built out of an old garage

Garden Gym

This was a small suburban garden who's owners wanted to also turn a small garage into a gym that overlooked the garden.

The Akeman Pub

Winner of best designed pub in England gets a garden to match! This was the outside space to the recently refurbished restaurant at the Akeman Pub in Tring.
