This was the typical small back garden to a terraced Victorian house in Dulwich.
There was a tiny patio area outside the back doors and the rest was laid to grass with some plants around the side.
As with most gardens this size, and with a young family, space was at a premium and our clients wanted somewhere they could relax and entertain, and where their children could play. They also needed some storage space.
As the back of the house faces north, it struck us that the best place for a seating area would be to the rear of the garden to take advantage of any sun.
A new patio area was constructed from beautiful natural fossil sandstone and surrounded by built-in seating with storage for small tools and toys underneath.
The paving continues up to the house to allow for hard-standing for the barbecue, next to which, is a raised bed filled with fragrant herbs. Attractive planting and pots on the patio provide interest from the windows.
Artificial turf provides an excellent play surface without all the work of a natural lawn, but the real ‘pièce de resistance’ is the concealed trampoline which is underneath it! A bespoke lid, exclusively designed by Floral and Hardy, means that it can easily be lifted and secured for children to play, and closed again when not in use, to seamlessly become part of the lawn once more.
